What Are the Best Coffee Shops on the North Oregon Coast? A Town-by-Town Guide for 2026

oregon coast coffee

Quick answer: If you only stop once on the north Oregon Coast, make it Sleeper Coffee in Astoria (1 12th St, Suite 101), Sea + Level in Cannon Beach, or Manzanita News & Espresso. If you want the whole coast, the strongest coffee towns right now are Astoria, Cannon Beach and Manzanita, with excellent single-shop stops in Gearhart (By The Way), Wheeler (The Roost), Garibaldi (Pacific Edge Espresso), Netarts (Seaworthy Coffee) and Pacific City (Stimulus Coffee + Bakery).

Here is the thing nobody tells you about coast coffee: it is the fastest way to understand a town. Fifteen minutes in a local shop on a Tuesday morning in February will tell you more about a place than any listing photo. Who lives here year round? Is there a remote-work crowd? Do people know each other's names? I have had buyers decide on a town over a latte.

And 2026 has been a big year for north coast coffee. The Sleepy Monk shop in Cannon Beach, arguably the most famous coffee stop on this coast, closed its doors for good on December 29, 2025 after fifteen years. A family-run shop called Kith + Keel opened in that same Hemlock Street space in February 2026. Which means most of the coffee guides you will find online are already out of date.

Everything below is current as of July 2026, running from Astoria south to Pacific City, with addresses so you can actually find these places. Coast hours shift hard with the season, so check before you drive.

Astoria and Warrenton: the deepest coffee bench on the coast

Astoria punches way above its size here. A town of about 10,000 people supports a genuine specialty coffee scene, a working roastery, and a half dozen shops locals argue about. If you are a coffee person deciding between coast towns, this is the one.

Sleeper Coffee — 1 12th St, Suite 101, Astoria

My first recommendation on the whole coast. Owner-operated by Pete and Roxy, tucked into Pier 12 right off the Astoria Riverwalk, open 7 AM to 6 PM seven days a week, and rated 4.8 across roughly 350 reviews. Genuine specialty coffee, not coast-town coffee with an asterisk.

Coffee Girl — 100 39th St (Pier 39), Astoria

The view stop. Coffee Girl sits out on Pier 39 in the old Bumble Bee cannery, so you are drinking your coffee directly over the Columbia River watching ship traffic. 4.7 stars across about 1,400 reviews. Bring someone you are trying to impress.

Blue Scorcher Bakery & Cafe — 1493 Duane St, Astoria

A worker-owned cooperative bakery and cafe that has been an Astoria institution for years. Organic baked goods, big communal room, 4.5 stars over roughly 1,200 reviews. This is where you go when you want a real breakfast attached to your coffee.

Cambium Gallery + Coffee Bar — 1030 Duane St, Astoria

The highest-rated coffee spot in Astoria at 4.9 stars, though on a smaller review count. An art gallery with a coffee bar in it, which is an extremely Astoria thing to exist.

Rusty Cup — 1213 Commercial St, Astoria

Downtown espresso bar on Commercial Street, 4.6 stars over about 230 reviews. Good baked goods, easy walk-in, no scene required.

Columbia River Coffee Roaster — 279 W Marine Dr, Astoria

The roaster. If you want beans to take home rather than a drink to walk with, this is your stop, and it is the reason so many north coast cafes can serve genuinely fresh coffee.

Journey's End Espresso — 55 Basin St, Astoria

4.7 stars over roughly 300 reviews, out by the Basin Street marina area. A locals' drive-up-and-go rather than a sit-and-linger, and the menu is bigger than you expect.

Balancero — 30-95 37th St, Astoria

A newer entry near the east end of town holding a 5.0 rating on a surprisingly large review count. Worth the detour if you are already headed toward Pier 39.

Mé Latte Espresso — 33495 W Lake Rd, Warrenton

Warrenton is mostly a drive-through coffee town, and this is the standout at 4.7 stars. Reviewers keep saying the same thing, which is that it tastes like coffee rather than syrup.

The Nest by Dough Dough — 33223 Sunset Beach Ln, Warrenton

4.9 stars, technically a bakery, but the coffee is good and the pastries are the reason people drive out Sunset Beach Lane. A great stop on the way to Fort Stevens.

Gearhart and Seaside

By The Way — 564 Pacific Way, Gearhart

My favorite small stop on the north coast. It is a coffee bar and gift shop in one, on the little Pacific Way block, holding around 4.8 stars, open roughly 7:30 AM to 4 PM. They pour Sleepy Monk coffee, which makes this one of the easiest places to still drink the Cannon Beach roast.

King Tide Bakery — 609 Pacific Way, Gearhart

4.8 stars, 8 AM to 2 PM, right across the way. Worth knowing that Lisa Allen, who used to own the old Pacific Way Bakery, is a co-owner here, so there is real continuity with Gearhart's bakery history even though Pacific Way itself closed permanently in early 2026.

Seaside Coffee Roasters — 5 N Holladay Dr, Seaside

Seaside's own roaster, at the north end of Holladay, 4.5 stars over roughly 600 reviews. Locally roasted beans in a town where a lot of the coffee is aimed at day-trippers.

Controversial Coffee — 111 Broadway St, Suite 7, Seaside

Right on Broadway in the thick of the arcade-and-taffy stretch, 4.6 stars over about 460 reviews. Better than its address suggests.

Brew 22 Coffee — 1260 S Holladay Dr, Seaside

The drive-through locals actually use, 4.7 stars over roughly 500 reviews. Fast, cheap, consistent.

Osprey Café — 2281 Beach Dr, Suite 5117, Seaside

More of a full breakfast cafe than a coffee shop, 4.6 stars over about 1,200 reviews, and a genuine local favorite. Go for brunch, stay for a second cup.

Cannon Beach: life after Sleepy Monk

This is the section that has changed the most. For fifteen years, the answer to "where do I get coffee in Cannon Beach" was Sleepy Monk, full stop, with a line down the sidewalk on summer mornings. The shop closed permanently on December 29, 2025. The good news is that the roastery is still running, it is just closed to the public, so the beans are still available online and through cafes, grocery stores and hotels up and down the coast.

Kith + Keel Coffee — 1235 S Hemlock St, Cannon Beach

The new chapter, in the same building Sleepy Monk occupied. Locally owned, family run, and here is the part people are relieved to hear: they serve Sleepy Monk coffee. Open Friday through Monday roughly 8 AM to 3 PM plus a shorter Tuesday morning, so check before you make the drive.

Sea Level Bakery + Coffee — 3116 S Hemlock St, Cannon Beach

Down in the Tolovana end, 4.6 stars over roughly 870 reviews. Excellent bread and pastry program attached to good coffee. If you are househunting in Tolovana, this is your neighborhood shop.

Elk Creek Coffee — 159 3rd St, Cannon Beach

4.9 stars and the highest-rated coffee in town right now, just off Hemlock on 3rd. Small, friendly, and the one locals send you to.

Insomnia Coffee Co. — 139 W 2nd St, Cannon Beach

4.7 stars over about 1,200 reviews, opens at 7 AM, free Wi-Fi and actual tables. This is the remote-work and people-watching option.

Bald Eagle Coffee House — 1064 S Hemlock St, Cannon Beach

4.7 stars over roughly 320 reviews, midtown Hemlock. Consistently kind service, which counts for a lot in July.

Cannon Beach Chocolate Cafe — 232 N Spruce St, Cannon Beach

Not a coffee shop first, but the mochas and hot chocolate are the reason it shows up on every rainy-day list. 4.7 stars over about 440 reviews.

Manzanita, Nehalem and Wheeler

Four blocks of Laneda Avenue in Manzanita hold more good coffee than towns ten times its size. This is my pick for the most pleasant coffee walk on the coast, because you can do all of it on foot with the ocean at the end of the street.

Manzanita Coffee Co. — 60 Laneda Ave, Manzanita

Closest to the beach end of Laneda, 4.5 stars over roughly 400 reviews, and the breakfast sandwiches are legitimately good. Start here.

Manzanita News & Espresso — 500 Laneda Ave, Manzanita

The old soul of the street. Newspapers, local art on the walls, cheap espresso, 4.3 stars over about 430 reviews. Order a double and sit for twenty minutes.

Offshore Grill and Coffee House — 154 Laneda Ave, Manzanita

Coffee house and restaurant in one, 4.6 stars over roughly 1,100 reviews, with indoor and outdoor seating. The most reliable all-day option in town.

The Spinn Cafe — 114 Laneda Ave, Manzanita

Smaller and newer, and reviewers single out the matcha. Good if the other Laneda spots are jammed, which in August they will be.

Wanda's Cafe + Bakery — 12880 H St, Nehalem

4.8 stars over more than 2,000 reviews, which on this coast is remarkable. It is a breakfast-and-lunch place rather than a cafe, but the coffee is part of the ritual and the line out front is part of Nehalem.

The Roost — 92 Rorvik St, Wheeler

Wheeler is tiny and easy to blow past on 101. Do not. The Roost holds 4.7 stars over roughly 200 reviews, does savory breakfast plus good sweets, and sits a short walk from Nehalem Bay.

Rockaway Beach, Garibaldi and Tillamook

Beach Bakeshop — 108 N Highway 101, Rockaway Beach

4.6 stars over roughly 490 reviews. Pastries first, coffee second, but both are solid and it is right on the main drag.

R & R Espresso — 610 US-101, Rockaway Beach

The workhorse. 4.6 stars over about 400 reviews, strong coffee, friendly, quick.

Pacific Edge Espresso — 225 Garibaldi Ave, Garibaldi

Five Rivers Coffee Roasters — 3670 Oregon Coast Highway, Tillamook

A roaster with a proper cafe, 4.7 stars over about 630 reviews, and they open at 6 AM, which matters if you are chasing a sunrise or a ferry-schedule-shaped day. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Hygge Kitchen — 110 Stillwell Ave, Suite F, Tillamook

4.7 stars, downtown Tillamook, and the rare coast spot where the food is genuinely healthy without being sad. Coffee, breakfast and lunch.

Netarts, Oceanside and Pacific City

Seaworthy Coffee & Gifts — 1355 Phelps St, Suite 4, Netarts

In the Sunset Pier complex, 4.7 stars over roughly 130 reviews. Small, cheap, and the kind of place where the owner will talk to you for ten minutes. Netarts has almost no commercial core, which makes this stop count.

Blue Agate Cafe — 1610 Pacific Ave, Oceanside

4.6 stars over about 470 reviews, across from the beach, with a dog-friendly patio out back and real vegetarian options. Breakfast and lunch only.

Stimulus Coffee + Bakery — 33105 Cape Kiwanda Dr, Pacific City

The view play. You are looking at Cape Kiwanda and Haystack Rock from the deck. 4.2 stars over roughly 640 reviews, which is a summer-crowds rating more than a coffee rating.

Cold Water & Coffee — 34950 Brooten Rd, Suite B-3, Pacific City

4.7 stars over about 180 reviews, on the Brooten Road side of town where the locals are. Faster and cheaper than the Cape Kiwanda strip.

PC Pour — 33310 Cape Kiwanda Dr, Pacific City

4.8 stars over roughly 150 reviews, right in the Cape Kiwanda cluster. The better-coffee option if you want the location without the wait.

Three coffee crawls, depending on how much time you have

  • Half a day, Clatsop County. Sleeper Coffee in Astoria, By The Way in Gearhart, then Kith + Keel in Cannon Beach. About 45 minutes of driving total and three completely different vibes.

  • A full day, Astoria to Manzanita. Add Coffee Girl for the river view, Blue Scorcher for lunch, and finish walking Laneda Avenue in Manzanita with the ocean at the end of the street.

  • The whole north coast, one long Saturday. Astoria, Gearhart, Cannon Beach, Manzanita, Wheeler, Garibaldi, Tillamook, Netarts, Pacific City. Roughly three hours of driving if you never stop, which you will.

Things I wish everyone knew about coffee on the north coast

  • Winter hours are real hours. Between October and May, plenty of these shops cut days or close early. A shop that is open seven days in August may be open four days in February. Always check before you drive.

  • The 4.2-star view spot is not worse coffee. Ratings on the coast get dragged down by August lines, not by the espresso. Read the recent reviews, not the average.

  • Sleepy Monk beans are still everywhere. The shop is gone but the roastery is running. You can order online or find the bags in cafes, hotels and grocery stores from Astoria to Tillamook, and Kith + Keel and By The Way both pour it.

  • Cash is not usually an issue anymore, but signal is. Card readers are standard now. Cell service in the little gaps between towns is not.

  • Summer mornings, go before 9 or after 11. The 9 to 11 window in Cannon Beach and Manzanita in July is genuinely rough.

Which north coast town has the best coffee scene overall?

What a town's coffee shop tells me as a Realtor

I am only half joking when I say I evaluate towns by their coffee. A shop that is open year round, five or six days a week, in January, is a shop with a year-round customer base. That means full-time residents, not just August renters. It usually means a school, a grocery store, some remote workers, a couple of trades businesses. It means the town still works when the tourists leave.

That is genuinely useful if you are deciding where to buy. Astoria and Tillamook have deep year-round economies. Cannon Beach and Manzanita are gorgeous and have real communities, but a much larger share of the housing stock is second homes and vacation rentals. Wheeler, Garibaldi and Netarts are quieter, cheaper, and if you want to be able to get a good latte within five minutes of your front door, you should know exactly which block you are buying on.

So if you spent a weekend on the coast, fell for a town over a cortado, and are now wondering whether you could actually live there, that is the conversation I have every week. I know these towns block by block, I know which streets flood and which ones have the view you think they have, and I know what is realistic at your number.
